How to Transform Old Stories
This blog post is partially a Jamie from Outlander love letter, and partially a reminder that you are a boundless being capable of shattering old narratives. Stay with me now, ok?
So I was watching Outlander the other evening (pls email me if you've binged so we can chit chat) and one of the characters said something that struck me as particularly wise – “A story told is a life lived. But once I tell you my story, I have to let it go.”
Let that sink in.
Once I tell you my story, I have to let it go.
But that's the opposite of what most of us do, right?
We tell the same story… over, and over and over again.
Often without pausing to consider, “Is this still true? Is this a story I want to be telling? How does it feel in my body when I tell this story? What is the outcome I am actually desiring by telling my story?”
I catch myself doing this allllllllll the time.
“I have a pattern of this…”
“I am afraid of that…”
“I am not very good at xyz…”
I repeat these tales once, twice, three times more. Honestly, it's EXHAUSTING.
Because the truth is – I AM FAR MORE LIMITLESS THAN ANY STORY I TELL.
Can you feel that ripple through your body? Yeah… you can feel it because it's true. Let it in.
We’re exploring the energy of Transformation and Transmutation for the month of March in The Soulcial Club (my brand new monthly sanctuary for women's spiritual empowerment!!!!!) and this line has me contemplating the power of speaking our stories in order to let them go.
This is a practice of bringing something out of the shadow and into the light in order to transmute it into something new.
We'll be diving DEEP into this topic in The Soulcial Club this month, but I wanted to share this here for my loves who aren't a part of the membership…. yet ;))
If you are ready to uncage yourself from the limited stories you've been telling, then grab your journal right now and take 10-15 minutes to reflect on the below!
What stories am I holding onto that are stale, outdated, and unsupportive?
What is a story I’ve been telling on autopilot without pausing to ask, “Is this still true?”
How does it feel in my body to tell this story?
Do I have any untold stories that are begging to be given a voice? If so, complete the following sentence.
My untold story is…
A story I hope to write for the very first time is…
A story I hope to rewrite is…
And then LET IT GO. Burn the paper. Sing the song. Dance the dance. Ritualize the release.
Your stories are no match for your boundless soul.
Would love nothing more than to hear your musings 🖤 send me a reply to kylee@thepracticeof.org to chat xxx
Love y'all
